Glen Acres Golf Club
1000 South 112th St.
Seattle WA 98168

The Glen Acres Golf Club is a members only club with a bit of a difference. For one, it is the most affordable club in the entire region. Second, it is an absolute joy to play for both the course, and the people who are members. This is without a doubt, a course for 'real golfers' who care about the game but respect the side of life that keeps you 'down to earth'.

It was my recent pleasure to play this course as I also own a house beside the 8th green. From the first hole I was in love with the club and what it has to offer. Glen Acres is situated in south Seattle only a few blocks away from Rainier Golf Club. The layout offers some very interesting shot planning opportunities with dual tees as it is a 9 hole spread.

Hole one could definitely be called the 'signature hole' for its incredible view of downtown Seattle (see picture below). A downwards par four with a lean to the left, the first hole begins your round with a smile. The course condition is always top notch and even with heavy rainfall, the course drains quite well (as I had played just after a week of rain).

There are plenty of shots in your bag here and you should be prepared to experience a full range of club selection. Unlike most courses in the area, Glen Acres is not just a 'back and forth' layout. The par 3 holes present added challenge with bunker placements that are directly in your path or hidden beyond view. The par 4 holes always have 'something' hidden from view. And, the three par 5's will test even the most experienced golfer with raised greens, masked bunkers and exciting turns and tee boxes.

Glen Acres offers memberships at a rate that can't be beat by any other club in the city. Living on the course offers me a 'birds eye view' of the people who play here and I can honestly say they are the cream of the crop. Friendly, talented golfers that know a good thing when they see it. This club is also the friendliest and most welcoming I have ever seen.

The club house offers the usual perks. Restaurant, lounge/bar, pool, tennis, social events and so on. The range and practice greens can be enjoyed with simply a 'social membership'.

An especially nice combination is the 8th and 9th hole. Play the 8th/17th par 3 and you will pass by the house owned by the creator and manager of the Seattle Golf Guide. Then, on the 9th/18th, you will enjoy a second shot that must pass over water and through two fountains that pass 40 feet at least into the sky. It's a finishing hole like no other.

Great conditions, prices that can't be beat, and fun and creative layout. Mix that with true golfers that display the embodiment of original Scottish golf lore and you have the club for real club swingers.

I've had the opportunity to play many private clubs in my time, but none compare to Glen Acres. They really do have something here. Leave all pretense at the door please. Glen Acres is for 'real golfers'.
